ASE-Listed Companies Post JD1.070 Billion in Net Profits for H1 2023

Amman, August 1 (Petra) — A total of 144 companies, listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE), complied with the requirement to submit their revised interim data for H1 2023, providing the information through the electronic disclosure system by the deadline, which concluded yesterday, according to the Executive Director of the ASE, Mazen Wathaefi.

Wathaefi referred to a disclosure on the stock exchange’s website that insurance companies have until August 31 to furnish the ASE with their semi-annual financial statements for 2023. He noted that one insurance company has already complied with this requirement.

Further, Wathaefi stated that, excluding the aforementioned exception, the compliance rate of the other listed companies in meeting the deadline stands at 96 percent. This figure underscores the alignment of Jordan’s listed companies with legal mandates, reflecting a broader commitment to the principles and standards of financial disclosure and corporate transparency.

He also reported that profits after tax attributable to shareholders for H1 2023 dipped to JD1.070 billion, down from JD1.270 billion for the corresponding period in 2022 a contraction of 15.7 percent.

Pre-tax profits for these companies also trended downwards, reaching JD1.516 billion for H1 2023, compared to JD1.714 billion for H1 2022, marking an 11.5 percent decline.

In a sectoral breakdown, after-tax profits attributable to shareholders in the financial sector surged by 30.3 percent, whereas the services and industrial sectors experienced profit contractions of 37.1 percent and 40.4 percent respectively.

Wathaefi detailed that 98 companies recorded net profits for H1 2023, an increase from the 93 companies that posted profits for H1 2022. Meanwhile, the number of companies reporting losses reached 46 for H1 2023, down from 51 companies in the same period of 2022.

The stock exchange has disseminated these financial statements through its official website, www.exchange.jo, within the designated section for circulars and disclosures, pertaining to semi-annual data.
