European Stocks Close Lower

Capitals, Jan. 24, 2023, SPA — European stocks recorded a decline, after the improvement in economic activity in the euro zone, fueled speculation that the European Central Bank will continue to raise interest rates further to curb inflation.
The STOXX Europe 600 index declined by 0.2 percent at the close, and the shares of the health care and energy sectors fell by about 1 percent each, while gains in financial stocks limited the losses of bank shares, which rose by about 0.6 percent, while industrial stocks rose 0.9 percent.
