GCC Secretary General Takes Part in 49th Session of Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC

Nouakchott, March 16, 2023, SPA — Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, participated in the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is being held in Nouakchott under the theme “Moderation, the Key to Security and Stability”, in the presence of the Foreign Ministers of the Member States.
The GCC Secretary General praised the role of OIC in examining issues of concern to Islamic countries and peoples, supporting and encouraging moderation in dealing with all challenges facing Islamic societies, and addressing of extremist ideology and terrorism, whatever their sources, while he pointed out that the GCC countries actively participate in strengthening the OIC’s efforts in this field.
Albudaiwi also stressed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, affirming the importance of redoubling efforts to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people, protect Islamic sanctities, and reach a solution to the conflict based on the Arab peace initiative and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The GCC Secretary General underlined the importance of reaching a political solution to the crisis in Yemen, in accordance with the three references, represented by the GCC initiative and its Executive Mechanism, the outcomes of the Yemeni National Dialogue Conference (NDC) and the Security Council resolution no. 2216.
He also stressed the importance of supporting the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan by Islamic countries, in order to reach a consensual political solution that takes into account the interests of all components of the people, contributes to the restoration of security and stability, and meets the aspirations of the brotherly Afghan people.
