Hawari meets with US Army Research Institute delegation over cooperation

Amman, Mar. 19 (Petra) – Minister of Health, Firas Hawari, on Sunday stressed the importance of launching cooperation opportunities with US Army Research Institute (ARI) and Global Health Research Foundation (GHRF).

During his meeting with a delegation representing the two medical research bodies, Hawari affirmed the ministry’s keenness to launch joint cooperation in the field of combating communicable diseases within the One Health approach adopted by the Ministry, in coordination with World Health Organization (WHO).

Hawari also expressed the ministry’s interest in the combined vaccination policy that provides protection for multiple respiratory diseases to curb their spread.

For their part, the team, headed by Dr. Karen Patterson, reviewed ARI’s key projects, which deals with infectious and common diseases around the world.

Discussions also went over ways of joint cooperation in the scientific research fields at a strategic level in infectious diseases and One Health approach, according to a ministry statement.

Director of the Ministry’s Communicable Diseases Directorate, Mohammad Hawarat, highlighted Jordan’s role to prevent occurrence of infectious diseases and limit their spread, within the framework of One Health approach.

Following the meeting, the team toured the ministry’s Laboratories Directorate and were briefed on its capabilities, which developed “significantly” during the Covid-19 pandemic period, aimed to raising its technical and research performance with regard to conducting genetic sequencing tests.
