Jordan made “advanced’ steps to revisit women legislation- JIACC

Amman, Mar. 19 (Petra) – Chairman of Jordan Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC), Muhannad Hijazi, said the Kingdom made “advanced” strides in revamping legislation aimed to enhance women status and achieve their empowerment at various levels, the latest were the constitutional amendments endorsed in 2022.

Hijazi made the remarks at the opening ceremony of a conference organized by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – Regional Bureau for Arab States, to launch Regional Women’s Alliance for Anti-Corruption and Integrity in Arab countries (WAIA) on Sunday.

These efforts are part of Jordan’s reform program carried out under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s directives, Hijazi added.

During the conference, Hijazi reviewed national efforts aimed at empowering women and opening horizons for their societal engagement at diverse levels, noting that Jordanian women have so far held high-profile positions in various fields and sectors.

JIACC, during last July 2022, approved an executive plan dedicated to achieve women empowerment, to become an integral part of its periodic strategic monitoring and assessment processes, Hijazi pointed out.

In addition, he noted JIACC’s decisions to approve the national integrity standards prioritizes “justice, and equal opportunity” indicator, is keen to achieve gender equality and follow up related measures taken to realize this goal .
