‘Jordan provided Syrian refugees with what major powers failed to,’ Dutch envoy

Irbid, March 16 (Petra) — The Netherlands’ ambassador to Jordan, Gary Werfai, Thursday said, “Jordan has provided Syrian refugees with what major powers failed to,” noting the “great burdens” Jordan faced hosting millions of refugees that require international support.

Werfai added during a visit to Irbid to see community projects that the Netherlands is keen to support Jordan in development.

He commended the projects implemented through the “Municipal Services and Social adaptation Project in the Greater and Central Irbid towns,” adding that the projects would encourage more funding and support to expand the establishment of specific projects through the municipalities that would identify host and refugee community needs.

He noted that the adaptation project, to which his country’s government contributes, under the umbrella of the donor group and the World Bank, would focus on projects related to development and investment to support and raise the capacity of municipalities.
