Jordan “Shield 2023” exercise concluded

Amman, Mar. 16 (Petra) – Deputizing for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, his deputy Brig. Gen. Abdullah Shdeifat, on Thursday attended the closing ceremony of the Jordan “Shield 2023” exercise, which was carried out by various military and civil state departments, in cooperation with Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Colorado National Guard in the Kingdom’s various governorates.

Addressing the ceremony, Huneiti’s Assistant for Planning, Organization and Defense Resources said this exercise is “important” based on the changing strategic environment that requires periodic review of strategies and plans.

This effort aims to develop national capabilities, achieve modernization to ensure partnership between the relevant state institutions, and raise capabilities to achieve a “quick and coordinated” response to face anticipated threats and challenges that threaten the country’s higher national interests, the army official added.

For his part, Director of DTRA Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Department, Robert Pope, said the agency worked with Jordanian government ten years ago to reduce threat of mass destruction weapons and jointly cooperated to develop and implement multiple “distinguished” activities, in a bid to reach the desired results achieved today.

Jordan, he noted, proved its capability repeatedly to maintain its border security and showed its expertise in dealing with this type of threat.

Senior officers of Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF)- the Arab Army and security apparatuses, several U.S. commanders, and representatives from Jordanian various ministries and public institutions attended the closing ceremony.
