Minimum wages edge up to JD271: SSC

Amman, Jan. (Petra) — The Social Security Corporation (SSC) has raised statutory minimum wages to JD271 after the Labor Affairs Tripartite Committee decided to enforce a decision of indexing minimum wages to inflation for the years 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The previous minimum wage decided by the committee, which comprises the Ministry of Labor, the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions and the Industry and Commerce Chambers, was JD260, according to a SSC statement issued on Monday.

However, since the inflation of the first 11 months of 2022 topped 4.22 percent, the minimum wages subject to the SSC deduction increased to JD271 for the year 2023, it added.

In early 2022, the committee decided to postpone the minimum wage indexation decision.

Those 16 years old or older are subject to the Social Security Law, provided that their minimum wages are no less than the statutory minimum wage, the SSC explained.
