Participants at 10th Conference of Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments Stress Importance of Issues Under Discussion

Doha, September 12 (QNA) – HE President of Executive Committee of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, Secretary-General of Shura Council, Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadala, underlined the significant importance of the 10th conference of the association convened in Doha on Tuesday, in terms of discussing avenues and aspects of upgrading the association’s work, especially in keeping up with the digital boom the world is currently witnessing.

In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), on the margins of the conference, His Excellency said Qatar’s hosting of this vital parliamentary event confirms its keenness to bolster joint Parliamentary action, achieve rapprochement among brothers, share opinion and ideas pertinent to parliamentary and legislative matters, as well as grasp them within the core functions of parliaments.

He pointed out that the association will react further during the upcoming period through working with a variety of Arab events and issues, especially after the internal statute has been ratified with the inclusion of some items in this respect.

Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Fahmi AL-Zaarir praised, in his remarks to QNA, the State of Qatar’s hosting of the 10th conference of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, noting the role of Shura Council in this context, in terms of good preparation of the conference to come up with the intended outcomes.

He said the conferees will discuss numerous critical parliamentary issues, including those related to the association with the inclusion of some amendments in its function and terms of reference.

For his part, HE chairman of the office of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Mohammad Abi Ismail expressed his happiness for Qatar’s hosting of this conference, which underscores Qatar’s distinguished role in boosting joint Arab action, including the parliamentary field, stressing that Qatar is well-known country for excellence in defending Arab and Islamic values and authenticity.

He added that Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament entirely confirmed this by all accounts, pointing out that the conference will tackle many issues included in its agenda, especially those related to the regulatory matters of the Association of Secretaries-General, digital technologies, and social media to keep up with multiple types of global transformations in thinking patterns, as well as methods of upgrading and facilitating parliaments work.

He underscored the Arab parliaments’ role in harnessing the democratic approach in Arab countries, based on characteristics of each country, as democracy stems from peoples’ desire and is not a replication of random experiences or models.
