The Premier also met with the President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Werner Hoyer. They reaffirmed keenness to strengthen relations between Jordan and the EIB and create ways to ensure continued cooperation and strategic partnership between them.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the EIB’s contribution to supporting reform economic policies and some development projects in Jordan, especially its contribution to financing part of the national water carrier project, as the government signed a 200 million euro soft loan agreement in December with the EIB to contribute to financing part of the project.

In turn, Hoyer commended the fruitful cooperation between the Jordanian government and its international partners, including the EIB, stressing the bank’s support for investments that aim to bring about a radical transformation in vital sectors and services in Jordan, such as the national carrier project.

Khasawneh also met with Ryan McInerney, CEO of Visa, the global financial services company, and discussed means of cooperation in developing the technological infrastructure for financial transactions and activating the digital economy.

In this regard, Khasawneh refered to the creation of the Ministry of Investment as a main reference for the investment sector, as well as endorsing the new investment environment law, which unified investment references and removed many bureaucratic obstacles, expressing Jordan’s welcome to the company’s investments.

The meetings were attended by the Minister of Finance, Mohammad Al-Ississ, Minister of the Environment, Muawieh Radaideh, and the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan.
