WAM delegation visits media entities in Costa Rica, signs 5 MoUs

SAN JOSE, 25th January, 2023 (WAM) — A delegation from the Emirates News Agency (WAM) headed by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, has visited a number of media entities in Costa Rica to promote cooperation in news exchange.

The visit aligns with the UAE’s hosting of the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Expo City Dubai this year and discussing the possibility of Costa Rican media entities’ participating in covering this prominent global event.

WAM delegation’s visit is also part of its keenness to create partnerships with media outlets in Latin America and review the outputs of the first edition of the Global Media Congress, which was held last November in Abu Dhabi with the eminent participation of Latin media players.

The delegation – in the presence of Rawdha Mohamed Alotaiba, UAE Ambassador to Costa Rica – visited the headquarters of Sistema Nacional de Radio y Television, Sinart; La Republica Newspaper; and Group Repretel, where they signed three cooperation agreements to boost media cooperation across various sectors.

The visit also included the headquarters of several media institutions in Costa Rica, including Semanario Universidad (University of Costa Rica); La Nación Newspaper; Multimedios Costa Rica; and Columbia Group.

Two cooperation agreements were also signed between WAM and Televisora de Costa Rica known as “Teletica”, and Columbia Group, during a visit to their headquarters.

The UAE Ambassador held an introductory meeting with Costa Rican media representatives in the presence of Al Rayssi, where they exchanged views on the distinguished role of the media sector in supporting the development of societies. They also highlighted WAM’s development plans and initiatives to build partnerships with various international media outlets.

Al Rayssi reiterated the Emirates News Agency’s keenness to build sustainable relations with various media entities in Latin American countries.

He explained that this visit – which includes several countries in the Americas – aims to discuss the outputs of the Global Media Congress and exchange views on means to further develop the Congress’s second edition scheduled in November 2023 to achieve the agenda of this event.

WAM Director-General also highlighted the UAE’s preparations to host COP28 this year and the global coverage of the distinguished global event.

WAM Director-General thanked Alotaiba and all members of the country’s diplomatic mission in Costa Rica for supporting WAM’s delegation during the visit.
