Amman, Nov. 12 (Petra) -The rate of public spending on Jordan’s education, in ratio to the gross domestic product (GDP), stands at 3.2%, as 92% of schools accessed the Internet network for educational purposes, while 73% have computers to assist learning processes, Head of the Higher Council of the National Centre for Curriculum Development (NCCD), Muhyiddine Touq, said.
Touq made the remarks at a dialogue seminar on Monday evening, entitled: “The Reality of Jordanian Curricula and Their Alignment with the Era Requirements,” designed to examine reality of Jordanian curricula and find out shortcomings in keeping pace with new developments in this field.
The seminar went over the required curricula modernization in Jordan, aimed to keep pace with the new advances in science, experience and knowledge, according to a NCCD statement.
Touq added that the NCCD relies in its activities on the Jordanian Constitution, Education Law No. (3) of 1994, NCCD Bylaw No. (33) of 2017 and its amendments, and other governing strategies and frameworks.
Touq said the overall frameworks of Jordanian curricula set the desired outcomes of the teaching-learning activities, the required competencies to achieve these goals, and the basic guiding values for the ??Kingdom’s entire educational process.
Regarding education in the Kingdom, Touq referred to a “remarkable” progress in quantitative indicators, noting a “noticeable” shortcoming in achieving the quality of education, a failure to attract “the best” competencies to the teaching profession, and a lack of outcome-based accountability in the Kingdom’s 7,315 schools.
