AND Destroys Large Quantities of Seized Drugs

Amman, Oct. 30 (Petra) — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) at the Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Wednesday destroyed large quantities of narcotic substances seized in 58 cases with finalized rulings, as part of the AND’s ongoing efforts to enforce the law and protect society from the devastating effects of drug abuse.

The destroyed narcotic substances included 14 million Captagon pills, 3,100 narcotic pills, 686 kilograms of hashish, 21 kilograms of marijuana, 13 kilograms of crystal meth, and 2,380 kilograms of cocaine.

In a statement, the PSD emphasized its commitment to combating drug trafficking through strategic security operations conducted around the clock throughout the Kingdom and at border crossings. This includes cooperation with the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army, various security agencies, and Jordanian customs to prevent the entry and circulation of drugs within Jordan.

The collaborative efforts aim to establish a robust barrier against the drug menace, which poses significant threats to society and individual lives, it said.

The destruction of the narcotics was conducted under strict supervision by a special committee led by the Inspector General, the Director of the Department of Laboratories and Criminal Evidence, the Director of the AND, and the Public Prosecutor of the State Security Court.

The drugs were disposed of using specialized ovens capable of reaching temperatures of 1000 degrees Celsius, ensuring that the substances were completely melted and stripped of their narcotic properties.
