Amman, Sep. 23 (Petra) — To mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Japanese Embassy, in collaboration with the Jordan Tourism Board and the Jordan Japan Friendship Association, hosted a series of culinary events in Amman earlier this month.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the visit of Mr. Kurisu Junichi, fourth-generation owner of the Michelin-starred “Honke Tankuma” restaurant in Kyoto, Japan.
Chef Kurisu conducted a lecture and workshop at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA), where Jordanian culinary students explored the essence of Japanese cuisine, focusing on “umami” and its significance. The event also featured a Japanese-style Maqlouba, symbolizing the fusion of Jordanian and Japanese culinary traditions.
Another notable event was a cultural exchange held in Iraq Al Amir, where Japanese chefs and local Jordanian women shared techniques and traditions, fostering deeper understanding between the two cultures.
Capping off the festivities was an exclusive dinner at Daimeh Eatery, where both Japanese and Jordanian chefs collaborated on a unique menu, celebrating the long-standing friendship between the two nations. Japanese Ambassador Okuyama Jiro highlighted the role of culinary arts in strengthening bilateral ties in his remarks.
The series of events underscored the enduring commitment to cultural exchange and the deepening relations between Japan and Jordan, marking a significant milestone in their seven decades of diplomatic partnership.
