Director of the International Organizations Department Participates in High-Level Meeting on Addressing Threats from Sea Level Rise

New York, September 26 (QNA) – HE Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani participated in a high-level general meeting on addressing existential threats resulting from sea level rise, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting was opened by HE UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, with the participation of HE President of the 78th session of the General Assembly Dennis Francis, and HE Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed.

In a speech on behalf of the GCC Group, HE Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of international coordination and continued constructive dialogue to develop effective strategies to mitigate the effects of sea level rise, and the need to avoid duplication with existing efforts in the relevant committees.

Her Excellency renewed the GCC Group’s support for international efforts in this field, stressing the importance of reaching strategies that meet the aspirations of the peoples of the region. (QNA)
