EBRD explores future vision to boost Jordan’s green hydrogen industry

Aqaba, July 4 (Petra) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), on Thursday organized a panel discussion on ways to enhance the future of green hydrogen industries.

Speaking the event, ASEZA Chairman, Nayef Fayez, said the city of Aqaba is a “major and promising” destination for green hydrogen industries, and provides a “strategic” location and an “attractive” business environment for investment and innovation in this vital sector.

The ASEZA, he noted, recently launched its “new” strategy focusing on green hydrogen, adding that industrial companies can benefit from Aqaba’s “strategic” location at the crossroads of three continents, which provides “easy” access and a “business-friendly” regulatory environment that ensures “smooth” business conduct and “attractive, competitive” tax incentives and exemptions for investment.

Fayez pointed out that Aqaba enjoys “modern” infrastructure and facilities designed to support industrial growth, and a “skilled and adaptable” workforce ready to meet requirements of green hydrogen.

Additionally, he stressed ASEZA’s commitment to ensure sustainability, green growth standards and “long-term” operations.

In an intervention remotely, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, said Jordan is one of the “first” countries to pay attention to green hydrogen by providing “advanced” infrastructure for factories.

The minister also noted the government’s keenness to strengthen this policy, aimed to reduce carbon emissions and switch to alternative energy in all the country’s industries.
