Amman, Nov. 11 (Petra) — Minister of Environment Muawieh Radaideh met Monday with President of the the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), Sultan Al-Jaber, on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan.
He conveyed his gratitude for the UAE’s historic accomplishment and the outcomes of COP28, which culminated in the UAE Consensus for Climate Action, at the conference.
Radaideh also met with COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev, emphasizing Jordan’s support for the Azerbaijani presidency and the need for a worldwide consensus on the new global quantitative objective, as well as the fact that the current conference will add an executive component to climate action.
In his speech, Al Jaber urged all parties to establish a new quantitative target in order to carry out the UAE consensus and forge partnerships, stating that the world is capable of changing and stepping up efforts to come together in order to maintain the global goal of 1.5 C.
During the conference, Babayev stated that climate change is no more a future prediction, but rather current events and losses, and that the goals are obvious by increasing ambition and cooperation with execution mechanisms.
The conference intends to establish an ambitious action plan to achieve climate stabilization and promote the transition to clean and renewable energy.
