He also emphasized the government’s keenness to overcome the obstacles facing investors’ businesses, noting that the decision to ban the export of a group of basic commodities aims at maintaining a safe strategic stock within the local market in light of the regional circumstances.
Al-Qudah pointed to the cabinet’s decision to freeze the decision to reduce customs duties as a first stage for next year in order to preserve the industrial sector’s resilience.
He said that the decision followed a study of its economic impact, which proved that there was no financial impact on prices and the treasury as expected. Al-Qudah pointed out that the government will re-examine the financial impact of the decision to reduce duties during the next year and work to impose duties on imported goods that would support the industrial sector.
He said the government appreciates the importance of the industrial and commercial sectors, but looks at this issue from a holistic perspective and in the interest of the national economy.
He added that the government absolutely believes that national industry is the best solution for the national economy due to its high added value and high return on the national economy.
For his part, Hamdi Tabbaa, JBA President, said that the industry and trade sectors are the cornerstone of the national economy for their great role in employment, recruitment, and attracting quality investments.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation with the government in developing an action plan for the two sectors for 2025, which is concerned with developing projects and attracting local and foreign investments to support economic growth.
Tabbaa stressed the importance of working to project the image and identity of Jordanian industries and raise the competitiveness of Jordanian products and exports in order to serve the national economy in general and reduce unemployment, in implementation of the economic modernization vision’s priorities, as the industry and trade sectors are one of the main pillars in driving economic growth and achieving food security, especially in light of the current economic conditions due to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and its repercussions on the national economy.
Tabbaa underscored the importance of the sustainability of economic sectors, providing better support for resource management, reducing energy and water costs, and reducing taxes on industrial and commercial activities that reduce production costs and contribute to increasing their competitiveness at the local and global levels.
