Amman, November 19 (Petra) -In the central region, the Customs Department (JCD) announced its workers in the Anti-Smuggling Directorate, in cooperation and coordination with the Kingdom’s security departments, successfully seized “large” quantities of expired food items and medicines.
The confiscated items are estimated at 1,000 kilograms of cocoa and a total of about 11,000 packages of medical preparations and drugs, stored in bad conditions, the JCD said in a statement on Tuesday.
The department also seized about 76,000 expired plastic medical syringes, and “large” quantities of hookah tobacco, unfit for human consumption, estimated at approximately 2,000 kilograms.
During their crackdown, the customs agents seized these quantities after a long process of searching, investigating and monitoring, which also led to arresting the suspects involved in this operation, who were referred to the competent authorities, in preparation for transferring them to the judiciary.
The department stressed that the customs personnel in the Kingdom’s various centers are working “diligently,” alongside the state institutions to protect the citizens’ health, primarily from smugglers and illegal traders that endanger the public’s lives, in violation of the law provisions.
