Jordan hosts ARABOSAI SDG Monitoring Committee dialogue

Amman, Oct. 2 (Petra) – The 10th meeting of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Monitoring Committee of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) began in Amman on Wednesday, with the participation of delegations from 9 Arab countries, including Jordan.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, President of Jordan’s Audit Bureau, Dr. Radi Hamadin, said sustainable development is “closely” related to the citizens’ daily lives and constitutes an “important” issue at the global level.

Oversight bodies and international organizations entrusted to carry out monitoring duties have begun to give “greater” importance to the standards of monitoring sustainable development goals, he pointed out.

Hamadin stressed the importance of making sustainable development goals the “core” work of oversight bodies and auditing operations on the performance of the executive authority, especially after about 9 years have passed since the United Nations General Assembly approved the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its 2030 plan.

Over a 3-day period, the participants will discuss the agenda, which features 18 items, focusing on revising the committee’s structural regulations and revivewing progress in multiple SDG-related training initiatives and workshops, according an Auditing Bureau statement.

The statement added that the proposed monitoring reports will also be approved for publication in the related database, as well as reviewing progress in implementing the planned activities and drafting the committee’s operational plan for the year 2024.
