Amman, Oct. 23 (Petra) — Jordan participated in the sixth meeting of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Focal Points Network, held on October 21-22, in cooperation with UN Women, in New York.
The Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) was represented by Secretary-General Maha Ali, Director of Women’s Affairs in the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), and the Commander of the Women’s Police, who met with the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mahmoud Al-Hmoud.
According to a JNCW statement, the focal points network included 103 countries, and its meetings were attended by coordinating plans stakeholders to activate Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security at the national level.
The meeting discussed the different countries experiences in preparing and implementing national plans and challenges facing the implementation process at the national level, in addition to the new areas that a number of countries have started to include in their national plans, such as climate change, response to crises and natural disasters, food security, and cyber-security, from the perspective of their impact on women and the need to strengthen their role in decision-making in these areas.
Ali emphasized the importance of strengthening the protection aspect of women within the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda, as well as being more responsive to the suffering of women in wars and the needs of refugees in host countries.
