Jordan, Sweden’s foreign ministers talk ties

Amman, September 14 (Petra) — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Stenergard Saturday discussed cooperation and the upcoming conference to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The telephone talks focused on preparations for the UNRWA conference to mobilise financial and political support for the UN agency. The conference will happen on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings at the end of September.

Safadi discussed Jordan’s partnership with Sweden in efforts to support the agency, “which needs constant and continuous international support to enable it to continue providing its vital services to refugees by its UN mandate.”

The top diplomats discussed efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, end the humanitarian catastrophe it is causing and reduce escalation in the occupied West Bank and the region.

Jordan and Sweden began organising joint conferences to support the agency in 2017, and 8 conferences were held under joint chairmanship between the two countries.
