Jordan’s army thwarts drug smuggling attempt at northern border

Amman, June 11 (Petra) – The Eastern Military Zone, within its area of ??responsibility, on Wednesday foiled an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle “large” quantities of narcotics from Syrian territory into Jordan.

In a statement, a responsible military source in the General Command of Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)-Arab Army said border guard forces in the Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with military security agencies and Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), successfully thwarted an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle “huge” drug quantities into Jordan.

The source added that a group of smugglers was spotted attempting to cross the Kingdom’s border illegally.

The official stated rapid response patrols were deployed, applying rules of engagement, which led to the drug traffickers’ retreat into Syrian territory.

After intensifying search and inspection operations, “vast” quantities of narcotics were seized, and the confiscated items were transferred to the Kingdom’s relevant authorities.

The source reiterated JAF’s “firm and persistent” policy to prevent all infiltration and smuggling operations and counter attempts to undermine the Kingdom’s security and stability.
