Ministry: Education outcomes, multiple disciplines, a magnet of foreign students

Amman, Nov 26 (Petra) — Foreign students enrolling in Jordanian higher education institutions have steadily increased in recent years, thanks to the Kingdom’s reputation in educational outcomes, said Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mamoun Al-Debi’e.

“Jordan is known for prestigious education institutions that have won international accreditation and status, plus regional and international awards in research that helped to attract students from various countries,” he told Petra in an interview on Tuesday.

Al-Debi’e pointed out that the diverse state and private universities in the Kingdom offered students academic choices as these institutions have forged global partnerships and agreements and implemented joint research enterprises.

Jordanian universities, he noted, adopt the credit hour system, not a system of years, in most disciplines, with the exception of medicine, dentistry and Doctor of Pharmacy, giving the student the freedom to choose the subjects and professors in each semester, noting a qualified cadre teaching in English for non-Arabic speaking students.

Jordanian universities maintained “competitive” rates in terms of tuition fees and living costs, making them a destination for many students across the world, he added.

The ministry planned promotional exhibitions for Jordanian universities and colleges next year, as well as visits to countries targeted in a campaign to attract more foreign students to the Kingdom, the ministry’s media spokesman Muhannad Al Khatib said.
