Morocco/Libya: CGEM Head Calls for Stronger Economic and Trade Relations

“Morocco and Libya share the same ambition, which is to build an effective and fruitful partnership aimed at strengthening economic and trade relations,” said Alj during a meeting with a delegation led by Libyan Minister of Industry and Mining, Ahmed Abou Hissa.

“The CGEM is ready to build a sustainable and innovative economic partnership with Libya”, stressed the president of the employers’ association, underlining the importance for the two brotherly countries to develop investments that create growth, employment and shared added value.

After recalling the fundamental role of investment as a basis for socio-economic development, Alj called on economic operators to “work together to create a favorable environment, and encourage Moroccan and Libyan companies to explore new opportunities capable of accelerating the development of both countries”.

Deploring the inadequacy of trade between the two countries, which stands at 3 billion dirhams despite the free-trade agreement signed in January 2001, Alj emphasized the extent of the potential for economic cooperation between Morocco and Libya, which could double in the next five years.

President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), Chakib Alj, pleaded on Thursday in Casablanca for the strengthening of economic and commercial relations with Libya.
