Morocco’s ‘Ambitious’ Energy Policy Based on Courageous Choice (Swiss Academic)

   In a statement to MAP on the sidelines of his participation at the 3rd Innovation and Climate Forum, in which Morocco is the guest of honor, Vetterli said that his previous trips to the kingdom offered him the opportunity to visit several energy facilities in different regions, underlining that he is impressed by Morocco’s strong and courageous choice to divest from fossil fuels.

   The Swiss academic pointed out that green hydrogen is a promising sector for a country that has enormous reserves in the field of wind and solar energy, which allows it to obtain energy resources at low cost to produce green hydrogen, which constitutes one of the revolutions in the energy future of Humanity.

   He noted that EPFL, organizer of the meeting in partnership with the Solar Impulse Foundation, is linked by cooperation projects with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and other stakeholders, noting that these projects are a harbinger of fruitful exchanges in the energy sector in Moroccan-Swiss bilateral relations.

   For his part, President of the Solar Impulse Foundation, Bertrand Piccard, welcomed Morocco’s choices in the renewable energy sector with a firm commitment to the future, considering that the Kingdom is positioning itself as a leading player in the South, which offers the world its own experience in valorizing its natural resources and mobilizing financial, logistical and human capacities to achieve this objective.

   The Innovation and Climate Forum aims to exchange good practices in the field of innovation and climate, in order to address development under the spectrum of sustainability and the fight against climate change.

   The event also aims to provide innovative companies with the opportunity to present their projects and achievements, as well as the different paths aimed at meeting the challenges linked in particular to global warming.

President of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Martin Vetterli, expressed, Friday in Montreux, his admiration for Morocco’s ambitious policy in the field of energy transition, based on a “strong and courageous choice”.
