Passenger Traffic at QAIA Down 6.8% in August

Amman, September 23 (Petra) – Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) saw a 6.8% decline in passenger numbers in August, welcoming 964,375 travelers, compared to the same month last year, according to the Airport International Group (AIG).

During the first eight months of the year, the airport handled 6,069,085 passengers, a 5.4% drop from the same period last year. However, air cargo operations soared 11.8% in August, with 6,692 tons handled. Aircraft movements were recorded at 7,515 last month, down 6.2%.

For the year so far, QAIA has managed 50,669 aircraft movements, a decrease of 5.1%, while handling 52,040 tons of cargo, marking a 22.9% increase, compared to last year.

AIG CEO, Nicolas Deviller, attributed the decline in air traffic to tensions in Gaza and Lebanon, which disrupted several airline operations. However, he emphasized the group’s commitment to expanding airline networks and destinations to boost inbound tourism and ensure a safe and comfortable experience for travelers passing through Jordan’s main air gateway.
