Doha, Nov 12 (Petra) — Qatar said on Tuesday that far-right Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s remark demanding the imposition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and expansion of Jewish settlements, is “a dangerous escalation.”
The Israeli minister’s statement is “a blatant violation of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2334 that would hinder peace prospects in the region, given the ongoing brutal war on the Gaza Strip and its horrendous repercussions,” the Qatari Foreign Ministry said.
The Qatari ministry called on the international community to stand firmly against Israel’s, the occupation authority, settlement, colonialist and racist policies, and its repeated attacks on the rights of “the brotherly” Palestinian people, particularly its ongoing crimes in the West Bank, violations of religious sites and Judaization plans in Jerusalem.
International solidarity is needed more than ever to realize the two-state solution towards achieving a just and permanent peace in the region, it said.
The Qatar ministry said Israel’s repeated statements, that are in violation of international law and UN resolutions, clearly demonstrate that the occupation authority is the real obstacle to any effort for peace and stability.
It reiterated the Gulf Arab state’s firm support of the Palestinian cause and the steadfastness of the “brotherly” Palestinian people, based on international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
