Sahara Issue: São Tomé and Príncipe Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity and Sovereignty

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and his counterpart from São Tomé and Príncipe signed a joint communiqué between the two countries on Tuesday, following a meeting held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

In the communiqué, the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe reaffirms its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Moroccan Sahara. It also reiterates its support for the Autonomy Initiative, presented by the Kingdom in 2007, as the only credible, serious, and realistic solution for the settlement of the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

In this respect, Gareth Guadalupe welcomed the efforts of the United Nations as an exclusive framework to achieve a realistic, practical, and lasting solution to this regional dispute.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Affairs, Trade, and Energy of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Gareth Guadalupe, reiterated on Tuesday in New York his country's constant position in favor of Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara and the Kingdom's territorial integrity.
