Strasbourg: Morocco Takes Part in Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Council of Europe

At the meeting, held under the theme “Renewed partnership in strengthening grassroots democracy,” the Kingdom was represented by chairman of the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Prefectural and Provincial Councils (AMPCPP), Abdelaziz Darouich, accompanied by representatives of the Moroccan Associations of Regions and Communes.

The Congress of National Associations of Local and Regional Authorities, held to mark the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe under the auspices of the Lithuanian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, brought together the presidents and representatives of some 60 national associations, as well as members of the Congress Bureau and heads of national delegations to the Congress, Congress youth delegates and various other officials.

Morocco is the first country in the southern Mediterranean to obtain “Partner for Democracy” status with the Council of Europe, enabling it to take part in the Congress proceedings.

A Moroccan delegation took part in the Congress of National Associations of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, held in Strasbourg on September 12-13.
