New York, Nov. 25 (Petra) – The United Nations Security Council convened on Monday to discuss the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestine Question. Members received a briefing from the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, delivered by his deputy, Muhannad Hadi.

Wennesland warned that if forces undermining the two-state solution are successful, the collapse of relevant principles and institutional structures will have a ripple effect that could spread far beyond the Middle East.

He urged the international community to create space for a political solution, not a violent one, to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The UN official emphasized that achieving a more peaceful and secure future for the region requires renewed international and regional support to create conditions conducive to effective diplomacy.

Regarding the situation in the West Bank, Wennesland highlighted the alarming level of ongoing violence, describing it as increasingly dangerous. He reported that the Israeli government continues advancing settlement construction and enforcing policies of eviction and demolition of Palestinian-owned properties.

He added, “Some ministers are now openly calling for the annexation of the occupied West Bank. I reiterate that annexation constitutes a violation of international law and must be firmly rejected.”
