WB/IMF Meetings: Economy Minister Holds Talks with European Commissioner for Financial Services

Talks, held on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), focused on the strong relationship between the European Union (EU) and Morocco and on the challenges they face.

The meeting was an opportunity to highlight the Kingdom’s remarkable resilience in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck the province of Al Haouz on September 8.

In this respect, Ms. Fettah highlighted the ambitious reconstruction program initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in response to this natural disaster.

This exemplary initiative bears witness to the solidarity and mobilization of the Kingdom, in all its components, to cope with the effects of this earthquake, she said.

In 2023, Morocco was removed from the two gray lists of the EU and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). This measure is proof of the stability of the national economy and the strength of the reforms undertaken to strengthen transparency and financial integrity while opening up new economic opportunities.

Ms. Fettah and the European Commissioner also discussed Morocco’s role as a privileged economic partner for its neighbors, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation for shared prosperity.

Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah held talks in Marrakech on Thursday with the European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services, and the Capital Markets Union, Mairead Mcguinness.
