Wholesale Trade Prices Rise by 1.31% in First Three Quarters of 2024

Amman, November 18 (Petra) – The general index of wholesale trade prices for the first three quarters of 2024 increased by 1.31%, reaching 107.97 points compared to 106.40 points during the same period in 2023, according to the Department of Statistics.

The cumulative index revealed notable price hikes across various trade groups. The agricultural raw materials, grains, food, beverages, and tobacco trade group saw a rise of 3.35%, while the fuel, metals, construction materials, and supplies group increased by 1.47%. Meanwhile, the machinery, equipment, and supplies group rose by 0.21%, textiles, clothing, personal and household goods by 0.14%, and motor vehicles, parts, and motorcycles by 0.04%.

For the third quarter of 2024 alone, the index rose by 1.41% year-on-year, reaching 107.97 points compared to 106.47 points for the same quarter of 2023. This increase was driven primarily by a 3.16% rise in the agricultural raw materials, grains, food, beverages, and tobacco group, alongside a 2.48% hike in the fuel, metals, construction materials, and supplies group, and a 0.62% increase in textiles, clothing, personal and household goods. However, declines were noted in motor vehicles, parts, and motorcycles (-0.28%) and machinery, equipment, and supplies (-0.64%).

Quarter-on-quarter, the index rose slightly by 0.11%, with increases in agricultural raw materials, grains, food, beverages, and tobacco (0.82%) and textiles, clothing, personal and household goods (0.18%). Meanwhile, machinery, equipment, and supplies prices dipped by 0.02%, motor vehicles, parts, and motorcycles dropped by 0.05%, and fuel, metals, construction materials, and supplies rose by 0.53%.
