University of Jordan, Turkish SAU sign academic cooperation MoU

Amman, January 5 (Petra) – The University of Jordan (UJ) and Turkish Sakarya University (SAU) signed a joint MoU on Sunday, aimed to frame their academic, research and cultural cooperation.

The agreement, which was signed by UJ President Dr. Nazir Obeidat, and SAU Rector, Dr. Hamza Al, aims to open “new” horizons for cooperation in various fields, primarily steps to exchange faculty members, participate in scientific seminars and , organize international workshops and short-term academic programs, develop joint research projects, and train PhD students.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Obeidat said the MoU comes within the framework of the university’s strategy to enhance its academic presence on the international scene.

Obeidat added that cooperation with SAU “opens the door to launch cultural exchange that strengthens Jordanian-Turkish relations.”

Obeidat noted the two countries enjoy “several cultural denominators” that provide “remarkable” opportunities for “constructive” cooperation, especially in the fields of research, language education, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

For his part, Al noted SAU seeks to enhance its position as a “leading” research university, benefit from the UJ’s expertise in international rankings, and build joint academic programs.

The two sides agreed to boost cooperation in teaching Arabic and Turkish to non-native speakers, e-learning and digital libraries, and work on internationally-supported research projects, especially within the framework of “Erasmus Plus” program, according to a UJ statement.

The agreement also affirms UJ’s commitment to its “pioneering” role in building international cooperation, and providing “quality” educational and research opportunities for its students and faculty members.
