
Amman, Jan. 13 (Petra) – Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), Faris Briezat, met with several European Union ambassadors in Amman on Monday.
During the meeting, Breizat outlined the PDTRA’s role in enhancing tourism services in Petra and its efforts to ensure the sustainability of tourism operations in the region despite challenges facing the sector due to prevailing regional conditions.
He emphasized the PDTRA’s commitment to ensuring smooth tourism operations within the archaeological site, presenting a positive image of Jordan and its tourism product, characterized by security and stability.
Breizat highlighted the PDTRA’s focus on developing tourism infrastructure, improving services for visitors, enhancing and creating new tourist trails, and upgrading public facilities. He stressed the importance of preserving the city’s cultural and natural heritage for future generations.
He noted that European visitors to Petra totaled 152,792 last year, accounting for about 36% of the total 457,215 visitors during the same period. European tourists also represented 60% of the city’s foreign visitors.
Breizat said Petra is an ideal destination for European tourists due to its world-class hotels and tourism facilities, fine dining options blending local and international cuisines, safe tourism environment, and diverse cultural and tourist attractions.
He reaffirmed the PDTRA’s commitment to achieving a comprehensive vision for the city’s development, making it a global tourist destination attracting visitors worldwide.
Breizat invited the ambassadors to visit Petra to experience its beauty and unique features, such as new trails including Al Khurma, Wadi Al Mudhlim, and Madras, horse and camel riding experiences, and various activities like the fixed hot air balloon, Petra by Night, and adventure experiences in Beidha.
