Anti-Corruption Commission Highlights Integrity as Pillar for Public Sector Reform

Amman, January 22 (Petra) — Chairperson of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhannad Hijazi, underscored the necessity of reshaping institutional culture to drive reform, emphasizing the importance of leadership commitment, sound decision-making, competent public employees, and a transparent work environment rooted in justice, accountability, and the rule of law.

Delivering a speech at a dialogue meeting organized by the Commission in collaboration with the Al Hayat Center – RASED on the newly launched National Integrity Index, Hijazi highlighted that the Commission aims to safeguard public funds and national resources while enhancing the management of public institutions.

Hijazi stressed that fostering integrity and combating corruption demands nationwide solidarity to embed ethical standards across all sectors. He noted that such efforts align with public sector responsibilities and the principles set forth by the International Convention Against Corruption.

The launch of the index’s second version reflects substantial efforts to refine evaluation standards and tools. Hijazi affirmed that improving the public sector is an urgent national priority, requiring concerted action among all public institutions. The updated index incorporates more precise indicators to better monitor achievements and challenges related to cultivating a culture of integrity.

Hijazi remarked that Jordan’s approach to measuring integrity has increasingly aligned with global models, positioning the index as a pioneering effort both nationally and regionally. The index considers Jordan’s administrative framework and national priorities, deriving strength from a strong political will to combat corruption.

He urged public administrations to utilize the index as a tool to enhance institutional performance, create an appealing and ethical work environment, and instill a culture of transparency.

Hijazi also emphasized the need for unified efforts among public institutions to institutionalize reforms, combat corruption, protect public funds, and optimize administrative operations to ensure continuity and eliminate inefficiencies.
