Amman, June 17 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat on Tuesday signed two agreements to support and operate 2 factories to produce semi-fried potatoes.
In a ceremony held at the ministry’s headquarters, the agreements come within the framework of the project to stimulate the Kingdom’s agricultural and food industries.
The move is also part of a package of “strategic” enterprises carried out by the government, in accordance with the Economic Modernization Vision and the National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture.
The projects seek to enhance resilience of Jordan’s agricultural sector , especially amid changing regional and economic challenges, within “effective” partnerships between the public and private sectors.
Talking at the ceremony, Hneifat sai the two agreements provide support for a factory in Ma’adi area in Jordan Valley, while the other plant will receive assistance in Al-Hassan Industrial Estate in Irbid governorate.
Th minister added that the step aims to achieve “sustainability” of these factories’ operations, absorb surplus local potato production, and strengthen food value chains in industrial and development zones, and municipalities, which would raise levels of local food security and employment.
Hneifat noted this initiative seeks to enhance employment opportunities in the target local communities.
The plants factories will provide at least 60 direct job opportunities and approximately 30 indirect jobs in the transportation, packaging, and distribution areas, which would strengthen the local economy and support farmers by opening regular markets for their products, he pointed out.
The ministry, he stated, is proceeding with implementing its plans to develop the Kingdom’s agricultural food industries and enhance their “competitiveness,” serving “sustainable” development and encouraging local and foreign investment in this “promising” sector.
Meanwhile, Investors Raed Sa’afin and Iman Bani Saeed valued the ministry’s role in supporting the agricultural industrial sector, adding that this support would expand the plants’ production capacity and achieve operational and production stability that would “positively” impact local economic growth.
