
Aqaba, Aug 13 (Petra) – Mohammad Abdulwadud Abu Omar, Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Investment at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), met with Khaled Morsi, CEO of Aqaba Transport and Logistic Services Company, to discuss ways to improve public transport efficiency and provide a regular, safe, and reliable service in Aqaba.
They reviewed the needs of residents and visitors and assessed the company’s readiness to transport school and university students with the start of the academic year, ensuring organized and safe transport that meets safety standards and accommodates all users.
Abu Omar emphasized that public transport is a key pillar supporting economic and tourism movement in Aqaba, praising the company’s role in developing transport services that cover most areas of the city. He added that providing safe transport for students is an integral part of the public transport system the authority seeks to strengthen.
Morsi said the company operates a fleet of 51 buses covering 86 percent of internal transport routes in Aqaba, making it the city’s largest public transport operator. He noted the company carried 1.4 million passengers last year, with expectations for higher numbers this year due to updates to the city’s operational transport plan.
He added that the company is implementing a comprehensive future plan to enhance transport services, including transitioning to smarter operational and management systems through a smart passenger transport system, restructuring internal routes to expand coverage, and upgrading the bus fleet to improve service quality.
