Amman, Sept. 29 (Petra) – Proceeds from Jordan’s first-ever public auction of distinctive vehicle license plate numbers will allow the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to extend scholarships and loans to an additional 3,500 university students during the current academic year, the ministry’s spokesperson Muhannad Al-Khatib said Monday.
He explained that the auction, which concluded Monday with total revenues of JD4.76 million, will see all proceeds directed to the Student Support Fund, supplementing allocations already designated in this year’s state budget. The government had earlier increased the fund’s allocation by 50 percent to JD30 million.
Al-Khatib stressed that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to broadening access to financial aid and alleviating the economic burden on students and their families.
