Amman, Oct. 19 (Petra) French authorities announced on Sunday that the Louvre Museum in Paris was the target of a daring heist in which rare jewels from Napoleon’s collection were stolen.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nu?ez said several individuals broke into the museum and made off with jewels belonging to Napoleon’s collection, describing them as “priceless.” He added that the perpetrators used a crane mounted on a truck to access the Apollo Gallery, focusing their efforts on two display cases.
Culture Minister Rachida Dati said on the X platform that the theft occurred during the museum’s opening hours this morning, noting that no injuries were reported.
The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has launched an investigation, said the value of the stolen items is still being assessed. Preliminary findings indicate the theft took place between 9:30 and 9:40 a.m.
The museum announced on its X account that it “will remain closed today for exceptional reasons.”
