Amman, Oct. 20 (Petra) – Preliminary indicators for the 2025 olive season point to a recovery in production and stable prices, the head of the Jordanian Olive Mills Owners and Producers Association, Mohammad Najdawi, said Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, Najdawi noted that a tin of regular virgin olive oil is selling at around JD 100, while extra virgin olive oil ranges between JD 115 and JD 120. He said that pressing fees remain fixed at 65 piasters per kilogram across all mills.
Najdawi highlighted that production in irrigated areas has doubled compared to last year, while rain-fed areas experienced a decline due to climatic conditions, causing limited losses for some farmers. He stressed that the primary focus is ensuring local market needs are met, with no plans to export this season.
He added that the Eastern Mediterranean is facing scarcity, prompting the consideration of importing olives from the Arab Maghreb countries or Syria in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture to maintain market stability. The aim is to achieve local self-sufficiency and price stability.
Najdawi also announced upcoming olive festivals in Amman, Zarqa, and Irbid to promote direct purchases from certified mills and celebrate the season. He emphasized that Jordanian olive oil is of exceptional quality, being first cold-pressed with authentic flavor.
Deputy Syndicate Head Qasim Rousan called on consumers to buy from certified mills to avoid adulterated oils. Executive Director Jamal Batsh highlighted the ongoing national campaign to distribute tested olive oil to government institutions at fair prices.
Media Spokesman Mahmoud Omari noted that the scarcity of fruit increases oil extraction rates, partially offsetting lower yields. Secretary Ezzedine Fakir urged citizens to avoid rushing purchases early in the season, as high initial demand can drive up prices.
The Syndicate continues to monitor the market to maintain fair pricing, control supply, and balance the interests of farmers and consumers throughout the season.
