Amman, Nov. 7 (Petra)– Jordan has won a seat on the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the 2025–2029 term, following elections held today during the 43rd session of the organization’s General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali said that Jordan’s re-election to the UNESCO Executive Board for the third consecutive term since 2017 reflects the international community’s recognition of the Kingdom’s constructive role within the organization and its commitment to advancing international cooperation in humanitarian, scientific, and cultural fields.

He affirmed that Jordan will continue working with member states to promote quality education, protect cultural heritage, empower youth and women, and harness science for sustainable development.

Majali emphasized that Jordan’s membership in UNESCO serves as an effective platform to uphold its unwavering position in defending Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, in line with the historic Hashemite Custodianship over these sites.

He added that the Kingdom remains committed to safeguarding the city’s human and spiritual heritage and confronting attempts to erase its identity or alter its established historical and legal status.

The spokesperson expressed Jordan’s gratitude to the member states that voted in favor of its re-election, noting that this renewed mandate underscores the international community’s confidence in Jordan’s moderate policies and its diplomacy, which is grounded in openness, cooperation, and strong partnerships with the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
