Amman, November 9 (Petra) – Philippine authorities announced Sunday that Typhoon Vong Wong made landfall on the country’s eastern coast, killing at least two people and forcing the evacuation of more than one million.
The Civil Defence Agency reported that the typhoon’s path spans almost the entire archipelago, prompting the precautionary evacuation of approximately 1.2 million people.
Large parts of the country are expected to experience strong winds reaching up to 230 kilometers per hour, accompanied by heavy rainfall.
Government meteorologist Benison Eszteriga said during a press conference that the typhoon could bring 200 millimeters or more of rain, warning that this may lead to widespread flooding across affected areas.
