Irbid, Nov. 19 (Petra) – Yarmouk University (YU) achieved “notable” progress in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, jumping to 721st place globally out of 2,002 participating universities.
According to a YU statement issued on Wednesday, the university ranked 220th among 827 Asian universities listed in the classification, advancing by nearly 150 places, compared with last year.
The university said this reflects its “strong commitment” to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
YU President Malek Alsharairi said the achievement stems from a “clear strategic” vision that has guided the university since its establishment in 1976.
Alsharairi noted the university continues to translate this vision by integrating sustainability into its policies, academic programs, and research activities, praising the efforts of all academic and administrative staff who contributed to the accomplishment.
For her part, Vice President Ruba Bataineh said the university’s vision goes beyond improving its position in global rankings, underscoring its role as an “active” partner in advancing sustainable development locally and globally.
Bataineh added that the progress demonstrates that sustainability at the university “is not a slogan, but an integrated institutional approach reflected in policies and tangible practices.”
Director of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center Ali Shhadeh said the improvement reflects the YU’s concerted efforts, commending the role of the rankings department and the sustainability office in monitoring performance indicators, preparing reports, and coordinating institutional work within the ranking framework.
He added that the accomplishment highlights the importance of “systematic” teamwork in strengthening the university’s presence on the global higher education map in the field of sustainability.
