Amman, Nov. 25 (Petra) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi and the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, will on Friday in Barcelona co-chair the 10th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Barcelona Declaration.
Foreign ministers of member states will discuss key regional challenges, foremost the situation in the Middle East, and are expected to adopt the Union’s new strategic vision aimed at strengthening regional cooperation across three pillars: connecting people through education, mobility and skills; connecting states through regional dialogue, energy and water security, and climate resilience; and connecting economies through trade, investment, infrastructure and digital cooperation.
The meeting will bring together the Union’s Secretary-General Nasser Kamel and the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka ?uica. Spain, represented by Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, will host the forum and sign a new agreement with the Secretary-General for the headquarters of the General Secretariat.
On Friday morning, the European Union will launch the “Charter for the Mediterranean” during a special ministerial meeting.
