Amman, Jan 12 (Petra) – The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on Monday said that decisions to postpone classes at universities or shift to an e-learning system fall within the discretionary authority of university presidents, each according to their on-the-ground circumstances.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Muhannad Al-Khatib, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that universities enjoy legal flexibility that enables them to take appropriate decisions in a manner that ensures the safety of students and academic and administrative staff and is in line with developments in weather conditions surrounding each university.

Al-Khatib stressed the importance of students following their universities’ official websites and verified social media accounts as the sole source of any decisions related to class schedules or teaching modalities.

The ministry urged students to exercise caution while commuting and to be technically prepared in the event a shift to distance learning is decided by ensuring the readiness of electronic platforms and their university accounts in order to guarantee the continuity of the educational process without obstacles as the kingdom is affected by the weather depression.

It also stressed the need to adhere to the instructions of the competent authorities, noting that student safety remains a top priority, and wishing everyone continued safety and well-being during these weather conditions.
