Khartoum, 13-3-2026 (SUNA) – Sudan officially launched its National Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) in a ceremony attended by representatives from state institutions and partners in digital transformation and cybersecurity, aiming to strengthen digital trust and consolidate information sovereignty despite the country’s exceptional circumstances. The national public key serves as the technical foundation for electronic signature services, securing government communications, and verifying digital documents, thereby increasing the reliability of electronic transactions within state institutions.During the event, the Director-General of the Sudanese Cybersecurity Authority highlighted the strategic importance of the project in protecting the country’s cyber domain and building trust in digital services. He noted that establishing a digital trust infrastructure is a fundamental pillar in Sudan’s digital transformation journey. The project was implemented as part of efforts to rebuild digital infrastructure damaged during the war, relying on Sudanese expertise from engineers at the Electronic Authentication Authority, with contributions from national experts and relevant supporting entities. This model reflects the integration of state institutions in safeguarding critical digital infrastructure. The launch of the national public key paves the way for upcoming digital services, including securing government communications between institutions, enabling electronic signatures on official documents, and implementing secure visual seals with the Quick Response (QR) code technology for verifying official certificates and documents. The initiative aligns with Sudan’s national vision of building an integrated digital trust environment, regulating encryption technologies within state institutions under approved national frameworks, thereby enhancing cybersecurity and the credibility of government e-services.BH/BH
