Amman, July 22 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture and Chair of the
Cooperative Corporation Board Saeb Khraisat discussed the
Corporation’s partnership with the International Labour Organisation
(ILO) in advancing Jordan’s cooperative sector and supporting
sustainable development.

In a statement on Wednesday, Khraisat praised an ILO report that
commended the Cooperative Corporation’s legal and administrative
reforms, as well as its efforts in policy development, strategic
planning, capacity building and the automation of its services.

According to the report, the Corporation has made significant
progress in recent years through legal and institutional reforms,
strengthened partnerships and initiatives encouraging women and youth
to join the cooperative sector.

It noted that reforms implemented under the PROSPECTS programme, in
cooperation with the ILO, have strengthened cooperative governance
following the enactment of the 2025 Cooperative Law, in line with ILO
Recommendation No. 193 on promoting cooperatives.

Cooperative Corporation Director General Abdul Fattah Shalabi said
the partnership with the ILO contributed to developing cooperative
legislation, including the 2025 Cooperative Law and regulations
governing the Cooperative Fund, the Cooperative Development Institute
and cooperative societies and unions.

He added that cooperation continues under the second phase of the
Horizons project, focusing on training trainers through the “Think
and Start Cooperatively” programme and preparing internationally
certified trainers to support the establishment of cooperatives,
create jobs and promote local development.
