Beijing, July 31, 2026 (SUNA) – The Republic of Sudan on Friday signed the Agreement Establishing the Global Organization for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, becoming one of the founding member states of the international organization, which was officially established on July 17. Sudan was represented at the signing ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing, by Omar Issa Ahmed, Sudan’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, who signed the founding document on behalf of the Government of Sudan. The signing ceremony was attended by Liu Bin, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China. Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Iran, and Togo also joined the organization as founding members during this round, bringing the total number of founding member states to 35. In his remarks at the ceremony, Ambassador Omar Issa Ahmed expressed Sudan’s appreciation to the People’s Republic of China for its initiative to establish the first international organization dedicated to promoting global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.He affirmed Sudan’s readiness to work with China and the other member states to enhance cooperation, exchange expertise and knowledge, benefit from training and capacity-building opportunities, and support scientific research and technological development, thereby fostering fair and sustainable partnerships and advancing development efforts, particularly among countries of the Global South.BH/BH
