AMMAN, August 1 (Petra) — The Ministry of Agriculture has urged
farmers and livestock breeders to adhere to preventive agricultural
guidelines during severe heatwaves to safeguard crops and livestock
and minimize heat-induced damages.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry emphasized the
necessity of implementing key precautionary measures, including
maximizing ventilation inside greenhouses by opening doors and vents,
and utilizing shading materials to lower internal temperatures.

The ministry advised scheduling irrigation during early morning or
evening hours, applying supplemental watering for fruit trees, and
utilizing modern irrigation techniques to optimize water consumption
and reduce evaporation.

Furthermore, farmers were advised to avoid applying chemical
pesticides during midday hours, restricting spraying to evenings when
necessary to prevent plant scorching and crop damage, while
postponing grafting and minimizing fertilization during heatwaves to
prevent plant stress.

Regarding livestock, the ministry stressed providing continuous
access to clean, cool water for poultry and livestock, avoiding
midday grazing, and keeping animals in shaded, well-ventilated areas.
It also recommended providing adequate shading for beehives and
maintaining nearby water sources.

The ministry encouraged all agricultural producers to monitor weather
forecasts, heed official advisories, and consult local directorates
and extension agents across governorates to protect production and
ensure sector sustainability.
